Catha edulis (khat), belongs to a group of psychotropic plants, which has an amphetamine-like structure and contains many catin cation. The plant hallucinogenic compounds known for its calming effect. excessive contained inside the fresh leave khat could potentially induce plenty side effects especially when leaves are directly consumed uncooked. vary according how long been consumed, started from local organ disruption cardiovascular complication such as increased blood pressure myocardial infarction. In contrary, positive composition have also reported anti-inflammatory effect, antidiabetic, anticancer, immunomodulatory improvement in respiratory diseases. Although myriad studies conducted examine best benefit obtained plant, legal issue on utilization is still questionable. Therefore, consumption must be maintained with proper strong regulation lessen negative impacts. However, potency ongoing. literature review was written based various books, journals, search databases Pubmed, Medline, Cochrane Google Scholar show habit consuming khat.
